Pharrell Williams, NERD, Santogold and Julian Casablancas – My Drive Thru
It is a short-lived collaboration but brings together some pretty unlikely artists. Pharrell, Santi White and Casablancas have teamed up for a rocking and relentlessly driving chunk of funk. Taking turns to handle the vocals, the trio mesh nicely in this slightly Prince-like four-minute workout. There’s nothing too deep and meaningful - “we wanna dance” they remind us – and Pharrell sounds like he has hiccups, but it’s a nice summery listen.
My Drive Thru was recorded to mark the centenary celebrations for Converse, so probably no surprise they would go for an All Star line-up (arf). At least the marketing bods for trying an original way of getting the message across. You can also download the track from the Converse website at www.converse.com and a video to the track will be released later in the summer.
