Track of the day: Attic Lights

Comments

As a curtain-raiser to their debut album, the Glaswegian quintet Attic Lights release this third single. Beats-wise, it is a joyous Spector-esque Leader Of The Pack-style celebration, the sort of stuff the Jesus And Mary Chain were exploring when they first escaped the obsession with drenching everything with feedback to the expense of all else. It also shows the band’s obvious debt to the sunny pop of Teenage Fanclub (and thereby many a jangly US guitar band) and west coast harmonies.

Fittingly the album has been produced by the Fanclub’s Francis MacDonald, while the string arrangements have been crafted by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John renown. Last month the band weirdly hooked up with David Gest (explanation here) who recorded his own version of Bring You Down (hear it on their myspace page. It’s out on Monday, July 21.
