The Fratellis – Look Out Sunshine
Do record labels look at the long-term forecast before chancing their arm with a song title that references the weather? Get it right, with a glorious tune about being bathed in golden rays and there is always the chance that it could become the anthem of the summer. Get it wrong and you are all but doomed (although you could have one of those Travis luck-of-the-draw moments and sing about rain at the height of summer – just as weeks of downpours set in).
Still, The Fratellis have gone with the potential of long balmy days for their second release from Here We Stand. It’s a huge improvement on the non-song which preceded it, Mistress Mabel which was a bit thin in the tune department. and little more than a one chord groove.
Look Out Sunshine is a toe-tapping bluesy rocker with choppy guitar stroke, a confident singalong chorus and importantly a vague nod to the stompiness that buoyed Chelsea Dagger.
And, yes, they have cleaned it up a little for general consumption (and presumably radio play). Look Out Sunshine is out on August 18.
