Natty - July
Timing is everything in the music industry. Always best to release a Christmas record before Santa pops round and all that. So with that in mind, it's slightly unfortunate that Natty gets to release his new single July on, ahem, July 28, thereby giving himself just (er, um, 30 days hath September .... ah yes) four days on sale before it becomes a whistful slice of nostalgia.
Natty learned his craft as a studio engineer (he worked on Razorlight's Up All Night) before stepping out as a musician in his own right. You'd be right to guess from the dreadlocks that his music is reggae-based but pop hooks and although there may be
the occasional 'I'n'I's thrown into the lyrical stew on some of his tracks, it's delivered with a cockney wink.
July is one of those tracks, like Will Smith's Summertime, which instantly conjures up thoughts of warm, humid lazy evenings, aided by references to 'skimpy bikinis' and the 'Costa Del'. Although someone should have a word with him about his grasp of time - 'July, July, July was a lovely year', he sings.
