The Delays – Keep It Simple
Quite why The Delays have never gone stratospheric is a mystery to many. The singles from their debut album should have been enough to have them packing out arenas on a nightly basis for years to come rather than yielding just one top 20 hit, Long Time Coming. Those that have followed have hovered in the 20s and 30s, despite Greg Gilbert’s angelic falsetto, some wonderful melodies and thoughtful arrangements.
Now three albums into their career, the new single Keep It Simple sees them back to what they do best: sounding like an indie Fleetwood Mac. The rather bizarre video features roly poly actor Ewen MacIntosh (Keith from The Office) as an obese jogger who can’t resist the lure of a durger en route.
You can catch their cover of man-of-the-moment Neil Diamond’s classic track Cherry Cherry, a track they have been playing live recently, on the b-side when the single is released on August 11.
