The Music - The Spike
Leeds’s The Music continue with their disco phase with latest single The Spike. It’s not exactly been an easy ride for The Music. Despite high expectations in the early days, backed up with some powerful anthemic tracks, that big breakthrough never really came. Even support slots with Oasis, which might have been expected to bring in a few converts, the praise didn’t really translate to sales, and they still haven’t managed to dent even the top ten singles chart.
A brave radio-friendly direction which saw them ditch their Led Zep-isms in favour of zingy dance-rock did however see their recent comeback album – their third release – crash into the top 20. And now with The Spike they have headed off even further in a disco direction which is strangely suited to Robert Harvey’s banshee howl. Nice video too - seemingly inspired by the computer game imagery of Tron.
