Gregory & The Hawk - Grey Weather
Meredith Godreau created her artistic nom de plume to avoid being immediately bracketed as just another female singer-songwriter when she began to perform five years ago. As her career has progressed, through the homespun, self-released recordings she has released over the years mainly to distribute at gigs, the name - which sounds like some children’s adventure story - actually grown embrace a makeshift set of musicians which has gone on to accompany her.
Now signed to FatCat records after being spotted by chance at a New York bar, she was working on an album Moenie And Kitchi within a month of hooking up with the label. Recorded with her producer Adam Pierce playing most of the supplementary instruments, Meredith has already proved to be something of a YouTube and Myspace phenomenon with devoted followings on both.
Grey Weather, which features on the album to be released on October 13, is like a a warm Radox bath after being caught in a chilling downpour. Soothing, warming, uplifting and uncomplicated. The simple acoustic arrangements are the perfect setting for her sweet, girlish whisper. The album’s first single Ghost, is released on September 29.
