Absentee – Boy, Did She Teach You Nothing?
Absentee frontman Dan Michaelson’s voice is so unfeasibly deep that it makes your diaphragm shake even through a tinny set of £5 headphones. Its vast rumble could knock tube trains from their rails. His subterranean tones – remarkable coming from such an unassuming figure - have been testing the powers of woofers since the band released their first Memphis Industries release, the Donkey Stock EP in 2005, which was followed by a well-received album Schmotime the following year.
You can get a good measure of the band’s blend of humour, kitchen sink drama and failed romance with a glance at their impressive assortment of brilliantly titled tracks: Something To Bang, We Should Never Have Children, The Nurses Don't Notice a Thing and There’s A Body In A Car Somewhere among them.
Boy, Did She Teach You Nothing? is a taste of the band’s second album which is released on September 22 and is this week’s five-day favourite on Q Radio’s QPM show presented by Samanthi.
