Polly Scattergood - I Hate The Way

You can almost tell from the blurry Polaroid-style publicity shot that Scattergood is a performer who specialises in dramatic confessionals and is not the sort of act whose natural home would be on the Chris Moyles show.
The 21-year-old Mute-signed musician has already been making music for a decade and released her first single Nitrogen Pink late last year. The follow-up I Hate The Way shows Scattergood to have the vocal drama of Kate Bush as she breathes the slow-burning first couple of minutes in a near-teary whisper with a skeletal accompaniment until an incendiary pounding rhythm sets in.
With lines like “He said not all men are bad and I am not like your dad and I will hold you even though you’re slightly mad”, I Hate The Way shows Scattergood has some neat lyrical touches, for instance: “He said not all men are bad and I am not like your dad and I will hold you even though you’re slightly mad.”
I Hate The Way is released on September 22 with an album to follow next year.
