Filthy Dukes - Tupac Robot Club Rock

There’s something gloriously forbidden and pleasantly grubby about a band that style themselves Filthy something-or-other. Filthy Dukes began life as a London DJ duo who built up an impressive reputation through their Kill Em All nights and electroacidhousenuravetwisteddiscopunkfunk (try saying that after four pints) DJ slots for acts such as LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip.

Tim Lawton and Olly Dixon impressed Fiction Records so much with their mix of the Maccabees’ X-Ray that they urged them to record material of their own with producer Mark Ralph.

The first fruit of the collaboration is the single Tupac Robot Club Rock (out November 3), featuring guest vocals from the unstoppable, machine gun rapping of Plastic Little and an intro that sounds a tad like the beginning of It’s Raining Men
but gets better (or worse depending on your view of the Weather Girls). The fact that they proudly display classic 80s synths such as the Roland SH101 on their myspace page gives some idea of where Filthy Dukes' musical hearts lie.

Debut album Nonsense In The Dark, which is due in February of next year, promises collaborations with Orlando Weeks of The Maccabees and Brandon Curtis of Secret Machines among others.
