Keith – Up In The Clouds
In the grand tradition of north west bands christened with boy’s names (Alfie, um, James, er, sure there’s more….) come Keith. Formed at university in Warrington and now relocated to Manchester, the band released debut album Red Thread to an enthusiastic but fairly exclusive audience.
Their work has been heard further afield though with uncredited appearances on Lily Allen’s Alright, Still as well as backing Sebastien Teller on early London dates and performing with ex-Can star Damo Suzuki.
Now soon to release next album Vice & Virtue the band have taken a slight musical detour on their already diverse journey which embraces indie-ish guitars, metronomic Krautrock, jazz and Afrobeats, as exemplified by new single Up In The Clouds, out this week.
“We've taken a turn for the psychedelic on Vice &Virtue," says vocalist and keyboard player Oli Bayston. "Up In The Clouds is our mission statement.”
Like the rest of the album it has been produced by Dan Carey, whose past credits have included Hot Chip, Kylie and Kelis as well as the forthcoming Franz Ferdinand album.
Intense and trippy, it somehow blends Radiohead’s Bodysnatchers, U2’s Elevation and Can’s Mother Sky.
The band are session guests on Q Radio’s QPM show from 6pm this evening (Wednesday, October 28).
