School of Seven Bells – Half Asleep
You may have come across School of Seven Bells’ Benjamin Curtis from his previous stint creating majestic trippy tunes with Secret Machines. He has now thrown in his lot with sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza – with whom SM toured in 2004 when the pair were members of On Air Library! – to work full-time on their trio project.
School of Seven Bells (SVIIB for short) was apparently named after a mythical South American school for pickpockets which featured in a documentary Alejandro caught on TV. Lyrically, the tracks are written as communications between the seven members of the academy.
Our chosen track Half Asleep is a warming wash of bright colours lapping at your cold ears with a vocal melody worthy of a lullaby. You can also get hold of a free download Connjur from the band’s forthcoming album Alpinisms which is out on November 17, which you can get by right-clicking (or the Mac equivalent) on this link. The band are also playing three live dates in the UK this week at London's Old Blue Last (tonight, Tuesday), London's The Social (Wednesday, October 29) and London's Pure Groove (Thursday, October 30).
Half Asleep is the ‘Five Day Favourite’ single of the week on Q Radio’s QPM show which you can hear each night from 6pm.
