Baddies - Battleships
Another band scorns the definite article leaving themselves open to the imminent threat of your Gran calling them “The Baddies”. Still at least this lot have got Alexander McQueen dressing them and a fistful of adrenaline-charged songs to bang out while they’re wearing their posh strides.
Rising like a well-turned out phoenix from the ashes of a handful of other bands including metal act Engerica, Baddies hail from Southend, which is apparently the nation’s new music capital (it says here).
Made up of identical twins Michael (vocals and guitar) and Jim Webster (drums and vocals) with Simon Bellamy (guitar) and Danny Rowton (vocals and bass), Baddies make aggressively hyperactive music that jumps between Talking Heads style vocal antics and the bass driven heft of vintage Queens Of The Stone Age. There's even a touch of the shouty rap perfected by Gaye Bykers On Acid's Nosedive Karma.
Battleships is the band's first release. It’s out on November 3 on the delightfully named YoYo Acapulco.

Saw this band at Offset Festival and they were great. Good single, just wish everyone would stop talking about who makes their clothes!
