Rod Thomas - Same Old Lines
Rod Thomas has an audience of several hundred people – possibly reaching into the thousands some days - for each of his performances. However, few of them will know his name. To keep the wolf from the door and to fill the gaps between proper gigs and festival slots, Thomas busks on the London Underground.
The whimsical ukulele-led folk pop of Same Old Lines blends a world-weary lyric (“I’m bored bored bored with the same old lines,” he sings) with a naïve fresh-faced air of hopefulness musically. It’s accompanied by a charming video – created by the team whose colourful creations have illustrated tracks by Laura Marling and Noah And The Whale recently), which conjures up a pastel-shaded, old (pre-)school childhood world redolent of Play School and Rainbow.
