Asobi Seksu – Me & Mary
Brooklyn-based Asobi Seksu, whose name apparently comes from a Japanese term for – ahem – ‘playful sex’, have followed in the footsteps of fellow New Yorkers MGMT, offering their version of psychedelic electro-rock-pop. Comprising frontwoman Yuki Chikudate and guitarist James Hanna, they often sing in a mix of Japanese and English.
On Me & Mary, Asobi Seksu demonstrate what they do best; producing catchy pop songs that combine rich melodies and sounds. Yuki’s sweet and airy vocals cut a sharp contrast with fellow band member James’ almost dirty-sounding guitar.
After having won over the super-trendy crowds in the U.S. with the release of their first two albums, they have already secured themselves a sizeable, albeit cult following and are currently touring the UK with Ladytron. With a new album in the offing set for release in March it seems certain that they will win over more fans.
Me & Mary is the ‘Five Day Favourite’ single of the week on Q Radio’s QPM show. You can hear it each night this week from 6pm - listen live to Q Radio here.
