Chart star Pink has admitted to an unlikely passion for gardening. The So What singer – who recently topped the UK charts – reckons that growing her own veg is ‘very punk rock’.
In an interview for next month’s Q – on sale at the end of November – the singer said: “I have an organic vegetable garden with four raised beds. I grow cucumbers, tomatoes, melons, jalapeño peppers, spinach, kale and chillies. I also grow sunflowers, marigolds and herbs like basil and marjoram. I like to get out there in my wellies."
In the interview for Q’s Cash For Questions feature in the January issue, Pink continued: “I’m full-on. I don’t have staff or anything – I do it all myself. I recently read a book called How To Be Free by Tom Hodgkinson. He tells you to get your own garden, if you really want to be independent. It’s very punk rock to be out in a yard growing your own food.”
In the video for So What, Pink is seen driving a ride-on lawnmower along a street as well as using a chainsaw.
Pink is not the only music star who digs the joys of gardening. Ian Brown has told of his love of growing his own veg which he reckons is a good life-lesson for his children.
And former chart star Kim Wilde swapped the music business for a life on the land by studying at horticultural college and later becoming a TV gardener.
