Blur have confirmed their much anticipated reunion with a show in Hyde Park next summer. It will be the first time that Graham Coxon, Alex James, Dave Rowntree and Damon Albarn have shared a stage since their Royal Festival Hall performance in 2000.
There are also persistent rumours that the band will be one of the blockbuster names to be lined up for Glastonbury Festival.
The band's newly announced Hyde Park show will take place on Friday, July 3, 2009, with tickets going on sale from this Friday (December 12).
Graham Coxon left the band in 2002 and did not appear on the band's most recent release Think Tank which came out in 2003. He went on to record a pair of solo albums (on top of the four he created while playing in Blur).
But in recent months the divisions between he and the rest of the band have softened and Damon - often busy with his own projects Gorillaz, Monkey and The Good The Bad And The Queen - opened the door to a reunion. Damon recently said that a reunion was “very possible” after rekindling his friendship with Graham Coxon.
Blur were said to be secretly planning an appearance at the 2008 Glasto but the arrangements fell through, prompting Jay-Z to be drafted in as a replacement. In recent weeks the band have referred to the potential of a return with frontman Damon Albarn stating recently that a reunion was “very possible” after rekindling his friendship with Graham Coxon.
