Crystal Stilts – Crystal Stilts

While Glasvegas have dragged Jesus And Mary Chain style noise-pop back into the charts, New York quartet Crystal Stilts have an even more pronounced love of static-splattered Spector-influenced rock.

Wrapped up in a duvet of distortion Crystal Stilts (the song) is the sound of the Velvet Underground rehearsing in another room, a glass pressed up against the rehearsal room wall picking up the tap of tambourines and singer Brad Hargett's plaintive moan.

Debut album Alight Of Night (out February 16) is stuffed full with reverb-drenched reveries and touches cribbed liberally from Lou Reed, the brothers Reid and Nick Cave back in his demonic goth days with The Birthday Party. Glasvegas make more palatable pop but Crystal Stilts have truly mastered a modern way of continuing JAMC’s forward thinking love of feedback.
