Florence and the Machine is to be handed the Critics' Choice Award at The Brit Awards next year. The singer, aka Florence Welch, follows Adele who won the inaugural prize earlier this year.
The star has drawn acclaim and a huge amount of airplay for her single Kiss With A Fist, as well as its follow-up Dog Days Are Over.
Florence said: "Blimey, a Brit Award. I'm making my album at the moment, it's sort of sounding like a choir, a harp, some metal chains and a piano all put through a car crusher, then hit with wooden planks really hard. I will see you at the awards - I'll be the one trying to get off with Katy Perry and passed out next to Leona Lewis."
The award focuses on new British acts who are tipped to make their breakthrough next year.
