The Stone Roses could reform in 2009 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut album, according to bass player Mani.
He said three quarters of the band are into the idea with frontman Ian Brown the only stumbling block so far, although he “just needs some working on”.
Original drummer Reni quit the band in 1995 and the following year guitarist John Squire left, to be replaced by Aziz Ibrahim (who still continues to play with Brown). The band dissolved after a disastrous performance at Reading Festival later that year.
But Mani – who has played in Primal Scream for a decade – now holds out the prospect of the band burying their differences. He told internet TV station channelbee: “Me, John and Reni are up for doing it and Ian just needs some working on. Next year is the 20th anniversary of the first album.
“It’s the ideal time to do it. It’s something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald. Start the campaign.”
Mani said he had been working on Ian when they had met up: “I’ve been seeing Ian at United when he’s there with his kids.”
