Official Secrets Act - So Tomorrow
Bon Iver headed off to a shack in the wilderness to find his muse, a romantic back-story which infused his album with extra resonance. Official Secrets Act upped sticks from London and headed off for a protracted period of song-crafting in the rather less poetic setting of a dodgy flat above a pub in Manchester.
Grotty, with not enough beds for the quartet and primitive cooking area which meant they had to beg for grub in local restaurant kitchens. Still, it helped to school them in the ways of great British pop as they played along to the back catalogue of The Clash pumping through the floorboards, watched music documentaries and stocked up on classic vinyl from the city's record shops during their two and half month stay.
Our track of the day So Tomorrow is the band's first single on One Little Indian records and a taster of their debut album to be released next year. "Do not be afraid if the dreams you've made crash down like waves, I'm right beside you," sings frontman Thomas Charge Burke in a song of hopeless optimism, on a track clearly inspired by some of the same musical influences which infused The Killers' debut album Hot Fuss. So Tomorrow is out this week, but you can get a free download of the B-side Do Not Be Alarmed here.
