Solid Gold - Get Over It
Try to conjure up the sound that three hirsute chaps from Minneapolis might make and the chances are that it wouldn’t be anything like this languid synth-pop. Just look at them – Solid Gold should be making stoner rock, jabbing their feet on a Super Fuzz pedal and shaking small bugs from their hair as they pummel the audience with noise, not this gorgeous, fragile stuff.
Get Over It, the band’s new single (out this week), shows why the buzz has built after their appearance at a string of groovy showcase gigs including an appearance at SXSW earlier this year. The technology sounds charmingly primitive and under-produced – it sounds like someone has plugged a Casio directly into a tape recorder – topped with a yearning vocal not hugely dissimilar to Ian Brown’s on I Wanna Be Adored.
The band are due to tour the UK next year.
