Delta Spirit - Trashcan

As their name suggests, this Californian quintet have the inner fortitude to resonate their hook-laden, preacher-like blues and be heard for miles.

Delta Spirit is the all-conquering new kid on the block, a vehicle for spirited anguished blues, akin to fellow blues-smiths Cold War Kids. The band's journey has entailed unlikely recruitment techniques, finding lead singer and guitarist Matt Vasquez busking by a San Diego roadside, impassioned, yet resignedly aspiring, they procured his services and have since reaped the rewards.

Trashcan, Delta Spirit’s debut single, is the band's irrepressible, hybrid take on contemporary blues-rock and has already been championed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, a US show that seems to have cemented their undeniable talent amongst the masses. Along with that, they have received adulation for their storming opening slots for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s tour of North America.

Trashcan's sublime piano-driven melody and hook-laden rock, is a heavy slice of undiluted foot stomping blues, accompanied by Vasquez’s rasping vocal onslaught and boundless onstage energy.

The single is taken from their forthcoming debut album Ode To Sunshine which is released on March 23 through Rounders Records.

Although Vasquez's boast of finding the cure for cancer in this song is clearly questionable, his boisterous, soaring claim of hearing his own heart thumping, is utterly believable when you bear in mind his vigorous performances.
