Glasto on the way to selling out

Comments

This summer’s Glastonbury Festival is already on the way to selling out with 90% of tickets already bagged, its creator has revealed.

Following last year’s difficulties with ticket sales, which meant the event only sold out on the weekend itself, places went on sale earlier than ever this time with nearly 140,000 tickets available.

But founder Michael Eavis has said that the 2009 event is well on course with 90% of the tickets claimed so far.

Eavis, who hosts the event at his Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, spoke as he received an environmental award at the Midem music conference in Cannes, France. Although he would not identify the bands, he revealed that he has four headliners already in place – two of them British and two from the US.

“You'll be amazed when you hear the headliners we've got coming this year, and we've already sold 90% of the tickets for this year already,” he told BBC News online.

Among those rumoured to be on the bill are Blur, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. However as the artists are paid "very little money", Mr Eavis said the acts are given chance to sell tickets for their own shows before the festival line-up is announced.
