Happy Up Here - Röyksopp

The first single from Röyksopp’s new album sees the Norwegian band live up to its title, beginning begins with a burst of laughter before more mutating into an upbeat, airy tune filled with a variety of energetic bleeps, blips, blops and bleats. Apparently, it was a song that came late on in the album writing process, but it’s one that evidently sets the tone well – the band chose it to be the album’s lead track. Multiple layers of harmonies, electronics and indecipherable noises build up and swarm around – listen to this song on headphones and you’ll hear something new, or at least different, each time. Having already sold over a million copies of their debut album, Melody AM, they don’t really need much help to get where they’re going, but nonetheless they’ve enlisted fellow Scandinavians Robyn and Lykke Li to appear on their forthcoming third album, Junior. Released on March 9th, Happy Up Here will precede the release of the longplayer by two weeks.
