The Officers – Red Chapter
With a name like The Officers it would have been easy to come up with some lame thematic concept – everyone dressing military uniforms (and risk the wrath of the red-pen brigade who lambasted that mohicaned chap on University Challenge).
So, perhaps sensibly, The Officers steer clear and opt for traditional rock and roll dress code. Black, hair, stubble, a hint of a slightly camp scarf. It is certainly far more suited to the music, a brand of dark electronic rock which wouldn’t sound to out of place blasting out of a Kasabian or Primal Scream gig. Large expansive synth rhythms, throbbing oscillators, metal power chords, anthemic choruses.
The Leeds five-piece caused a stir with a few London gigs with shows at groovy nights like Being Boiled and Death Disco, which in turn led to performances at Secret Garden Party and support slots with The Music.
Red Chapter, the forthcoming single out on January 19, is the ‘five-day favourite’ single of the week on Q Radio’s live daily QPM show each night this week from 6pm.
