La Roux - In For The Kill
La Roux (French for “the red-haired one”) has been lumped in with the similarly synth happy charms of Lady GaGa and Little Boots. But while Lady GaGa seems to be basing her career entirely on Madonna’s patented playbook of shocking outfits and frequent controversy and Little Boots has already mastered a mean line in Candi Staton-style electro, La Roux is a little more complicated.
Though sold as another synth-slinging solo singer, La Roux is a collaboration between Elly Jackson, whose ginger bob inspired the name, and her shadowy producer pal Ben Langmaid. It’s fitting then that their songs owe a great dollop of inspiration to Eurythmics and Yazoo, both duos comprising a striking auburn-haired woman and an unprepossessing bloke.
In For The Kill, the duo’s second single, is a snaking electro-pop fancy that matches Jackson’s emotional vocals with insistent drums and a keyboard line so addictive it could be loaded with E-numbers. The lyrics also stand out compared to the danceable banalities of Lady GaGa, recalling Depeche Mode or, again, Eurythmics at their most intriguing as Jackson strings together a beautifully confused love song – “I hang my hopes out on the line/will they be ready for you in time?/if you leave them too long/ they’ll be withered by the sun…”.
Like previous single Quicksand, it’s a track that sounds human rather than sending the singer into a land of remote robotics. Lady GaGa may dominate the dance floors and Little Boots is sure to be huge with the hipster kids but La Roux will steal hearts. In For The Kill is out on March 16 from Polydor Records.

I like La Roux's new single, In For The Kill. She's a bit more interesting than a lot of other similar acts out there. It will be interesting to hear her first album.

i absolutly love La Roux shes so different her style of music and singing, i love all of her songs i tried to get tickets for glasgow ABC shes all sold out :O oh well next year i just love her so much
