Ever fancied swapping vocal harmonies with The Magic Numbers or trading guitar riffs with KT Tunstall? Or how about having a first-hand look at David Bowie's infamous Ziggy Stardust costume? Well, in just under a month's time, those clever people at the O2 in London will be offering you the chance to do all of the above, plus much more.
The British Music Experience opens on Monday, March 9, and will be a 22,000 square feet permanent, high-tech exhibition on the top floor of the 02 bubble. Dedicated to celebrating 60 years of popular music in Britain, the BME will give visitors the opportunity to view, in-person, some of the most treasured music memorabilia to have emanated from these shores, including Noel Gallagher's iconic Union Jack Epiphone guitar, Roger Daltrey's inimitable Woodstock outfit and a vintage Amy Winehouse dress.
The main thrust of the exhibition, however, will be interactive. One of its premier attractions will be the Gibson Interactive Studio, a state-of-the-art area kitted out with Gibson and Epiphone guitars and Slingerland drums. Visitors will be given step-by-step video guitar tuition from the likes of The Magic Numbers and Amy MacDonald, who will guide guests through some of their best-known tracks.
The BME, a charitable foundation, will feature over 100 different artists, as well as providing a full public and educational programme of workshops, lectures and concerts. And it's all under one roof from Monday, March 9. You can find out more from www.britishmusicexperience.com.
