Looker - After My Divorce

It often helps to have a bit of a musical pedigree. After all, how would Julian Lennon ever have carved out his brief career? Would Rufus and Teddy have made an impression if there hadn’t been that twinkle of interest that drew in the listener? But as Lennon junior will know, you don’t really want to be stepping into planet-striding shoes or you will never fill them.

So spare a thought for AJ Lambert. The name may not be much of a clue but her grandfather was for many years one of the most famous men on the planet – and her mother did fairly well - so it is a brave move to follow in the family business even if you don’t adopt the Sinatra name as a bit of cheap PR.

She has played it fairly low key, knocking around with Murph from Dinosaur Jr in the band Rocket, producing mum Nancy’s 2004 album, singing jazz in New Jersey and DJ-ing, as well as releasing a solo recording last year. But she also plays bass in Looker – Manhattan-based turning out chirpy Go Gos-style pop-rock with a twist of Americana.

New single After My Divorce is a slightly twee but perky tune which tells of the joys of “sipping on Pernod/Campari after my divorce”. Just the sort of upbeat verdict on love you are after in the run-up to Valentine’s Day.

Looker are session guests Q Radio’s QPM show, presented by Samanthi, on Thursday. Tune in from 6pm to hear more from the band and listen online to Q Radio here.
