Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains - Who Do We Care For?

Anyone who had a passing brush with the sound of Death From Above 1979 must have struggled to come to terms with how such a fulsome cacophony – albeit a glorious one – could be created by just two people (a drummer and bass player at that). Then after just one album it was all over.

Now drummer/singer Sebastien Grainger has done a Grohl and stepped out as a guitar-toting frontman with his new band The Mountains. The sound is still incendiary but with just that little more focus and muscular power chords to the fore, instead of pinning everything to the bottom end.

Debut UK single Who Do We Care For? – preceding March’s self titled album – is a rollicking amalgam of the Stooges’ I Wanna Be Your Dog and the hard-rockin’ spirit and precision of Queens Of The Stone Age. “Who do we care for who do who do we turn to? Who Do We Make Our Friends? Who do we turn to?” asks Grainger – then undermines it all by naming another track I Hate My Friends….
