Doherty confirms Libertines reunion

Comments

The Libertines are set to reform, Pete Doherty has finally confirmed. Doherty said he and old pal Carl Barat will perform together again under the Libertines banner despite their fall-outs and solo projects.

The band split in 2004 in the wake of their eponymous second album, with the pair eventually going on to form Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things.

There has been speculation for years that the pair would reunite and a recent Qthemusic.com poll found 80% of users would like to see them reform. They played an impromptu set together two years ago during Doherty's two-night run at London's Hackney Empire.

Confirming the reunion, The Sun today reported Doherty saying: "I've written and recorded a solo record. There's probably another on the way. There's an amazing Babyshambles record coming too and The Libertines is going to happen.

"I didn't twist Carl's arm too far. He doesn't take kindly to it" he added

  • to call these men wankers shows a complete lack of understanding and appreciation for what they did to revive the the brittish music scene. before we heard what a waster and before up the bracket all we had were dj's pumping trance and house to the generation of extacy takers of which i was one. guitars are back bands a thriving and kids are picking up instruments and its because of peter and carl.....
