White Stripes line up appearance

Comments

The White Stripes are to play live together for the first time since pulling out of a UK tour nearly 18 months ago for a US TV appearance.

Jack and Meg White had been due to play their biggest ever UK dates in 2007 but the dates were shelved due to Meg’s “acute anxiety” which left her unable to travel, telling fans: "We hate to let people down and are very sorry." Jack has subsequently been busy writing, recording and playing with his other band The Raconteurs.

However the band have now lined up a performance on NBC talk show Late Night With Conan O'Brien on Friday. They have previously played a week’s residency on the show.

The band have suffered a series of woes in terms of live work with Jack damaging his hand in a car accident which led to them pulling out of Reading and Leeds Festival appearances in 2003. And in 2006 they had to postpone Japanese gigs when Jack suffered vocal chord problems and was ordered not to sing on medical advice.

Although they did not perform together, Jack and Meg’s last public appearance together was last year when she came onstage during a show by The Raconteurs.
