It's A Musical - The Music Makes Me Sick
The likes of Ben Folds, Dresden Dolls and of course Keane have shown that you don’t need guitars to knock out a finely crafted pop track. A piano can just as easily be the lead voice in any small combo. Swedish-German duo It’s A Musical take that approach as their cue, expanding the line-up further by drawing on trumpets, vibes and choral vocals to paint their pastel-shade tunes.
The Music Makes Me Sick – from the band’s debut album of the same name – is a perky sun-drenched nursery rhyme with a naggingly familiar sound and a slightly disconcerting change of pace midway. And it contains a line which must be close to the heart of any music reviewer: “At every concert I have tried to keep my faith, that something special will be played.”
The track is the ‘five-day favourite’ single of the week on Q Radio’s QPM show throughout this week. You can hear it from 6pm each evening.
