His appearance has been rumoured for months but today Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis finally confirmed that Neil Young would be the third headliner for this summer’s festival.
He joins a bill which already features Blur and Bruce Springsteen and the event's creator also announced that Fleet Foxes would be gracing Glasto this year.
Eavis said today: "Every year the people that come to the Festival ask the same question: when is Neil Young playing? So this is big news for us. I've seen him play many times over the years but I think he's better than ever at the moment, it's one hell of a show.
"And the wonderful thing about Neil Young is that every generation loves his music, you can hear him in some of the younger bands like Fleet Foxes, who will also be playing at the Festival this year, so it's a big one for all of us. With Neil on the bill we are close to completing our best ever line-up."
This summer's event is shaping up to be a more traditional crowd-pleaser than 2008's line-up which featured Jay-Z as the Saturday night headliner. The sold-out event runs over the last weekend of June.
