Second Malawian adoption for Madonna?

Comments

Madonna is reported to be preparing to travel to Malawi to adopt a second child from the country. The BBC reports that it has been informed by Government officials in the country that 50-year-old Madonna is to travel there shortly.

She is expected to attend a court hearing early next week after heading to the country this weekend. She adopted a child – David Banda – with then husband Guy Ritchie in 2006 and the process was formally approved last year.

Madonna recently spoke of her desire to adopt another child from Malawi. Wrting in the country’s national newspaper Nation, she said: “"It's something I have been considering, but would only do if I had the support of the Malawian people and the Government."

A US government official, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Reuters news agency an adoption procedure was already under way.

Madonna – whose divorce to Ritchie was finalised in November of last year, already has two of her own children – Lourdes and Rocco.

The adoption of David prompted criticism of the Malawian government in 2006 when it emerged that the usual conventions banning foreign adoptions had been overruled.
