John Squire has rubbished the idea of a mooted Stone Roses reunion by calling the idea an act of “desecation”.
The guitarist has posted a photograph of an artwork with a message saying he has “no desire” to reunite with his former band. There had been a report that the band had lined up a tour of at least 21 dates to mark the release of the band’s debut album which was 20 years ago this month.
Squire has in the past spoken of how he was turning his back on music and devoting his energies to his artwork. The musician has hosted his own one-man shows and was responsible for the band’s artwork.
He hit back at the suggestions of a reunion by posting the slogan-covered artwork on his website here. On what looks like a rusted box which has been opened out, he has painted in capital letters: “I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses. 18.03.09”
