Astrid Williamson - Slake

Brighton-based Astrid Williamson is something of an experienced music industry veteran. Formerly the lead singer in '90s trio Goya Dress, she went on release her own material under the moniker 'Astrid', appearing briefly on Nude records before they became defunct (subsequently resurrected).
But that's all history; on her fourth solo album and happily settled in the groove with her own label Incarnation (distributed via One Little Indian), she's decided to up the tempo for Here Come The Vikings. "I was losing ten beats per minute every album so I thought I'd plug in and sort things out".
Compared to previous output she's done just that, hopefully shaking off some of the lazy 'female vocal + piano = Tori Amos' comparisons too. Today's featured track and future single Slake is a rocker with interesting construction, the lyrics written to the blank verse utilising mostly ten syllables to a line "It was interesting to impose some structural limitations".
Slake will be released as a single on June 1.
The album Here Come The Vikings is out on June 8.

Astrid, you have an amazing voice and diversity. When are you going to bring it to the US masses in the form of a tour?
