Charity gig Childline Rocks will return in 2009 with an array of classic rock names as varied as The Pretty Things and Justin Hawkins. 2008 the event saw The Who's Roger Daltrey, Lulu, Marillion and members of Deep Purple perform and support the charity.
Artists announced for 2009 so far include Uriah Heep, Deep Purple's Jon Lord, Glenn Hughes, Justin Hawkins' new band Hot Leg, The Pretty Things, Steve Balsamo, Sons Of Albion, Andy Newmark and Mollie Marriott.
DJ Bob Harris will again compere the gig which takes place at the Indig02, London on June 1.
The 2008 event collected over £100,000 and funds raised will go towards the charity's Child's Voice Appeal which is aiming to raise 50 million to ensure every child's call for help is answered (at present, only two thirds currently get through to a counsellor).
Tickets for the show are priced £200 (VIP), £40 (seated) and £25 (standing) and are available now. Organisers say every penny makes a difference, for example the £25 cost of the cheapest ticket could pay for six calls from children, at least one of whom is likely to be phoning about physical or sexual abuse.
ChildLine president and founder Esther Rantzen said, "ChildLine Rocks was a fantastic success when we launched it and raised a phenomenal amount of money for ChildLine. We were very lucky to have some terrific acts on board and I can¹t wait to see this year's bill, it promises to be a wonderful evening."
