Sam Lewis - Another Lifetime
Sam Lewis comes from good stock, in the past he's played in bands with King Creosote, Bert Jansch and Tom Baxter.
For the past four years however, he's been mostly on the road as a guitarist in KT Tunstall's band. During that time he wrote most of debut album Everything You Are wherever inspiration struck: hotel lobbies, airport lounges and the travelling musician's home-from-home, the tour bus.
The album and single Another Lifetime document the disintegration of his long-term relationship during these extended periods on the road listening to classic American singer-songwriters like Neil Young and Tom Waits.
It's a slowly strummed acoustic confessional: 'I answered your questions as honestly as I could/ but you could see I was trying/ not to mention the one thing that I should/ to myself I was lying' sums up the feeling of disconnection, slow heartbreak and awkward reconciliations upon returning home. It's rather fitting then that KT provides a simple backing vocal for him on what is otherwise a spare arrangement, lyrically direct and from the heart.
Another Lifetime will be released as a single on April 27. Everything You Are is out May 4 on Rusk Recordings.
