Hailing from Edinburgh, Broken Records are a seven piece with a sound palette as broad as their line-up. Formed at the end of 2006, Jamie, Dave, Rory, Andy, Ian, Arne and Gill cite European folk and contemporary Scottish alternative music as main influences.
Comparisons to Arcade Fire have been made by some; perhaps again more due to their number and the fact their songs sometimes feature a variety of instruments including accordion, mandolin, piano and trumpet. Their overall sound is perhaps more closer lyrically and musically to a more cinematic The Twilight Sad, with a hint of Eastern Folk. Until The Earth begins to Part is their new single.
The band are playing at The Great Escape festival in Brighton this weekend, followed by a British tour in June that culminates in a slot at Glastonbury Festival.
