Rarely seen photographs of classic rock figures taken by Michael Putland are to be displayed at a new exhibition of images which will go on public view later this week. Among the artists featured are Led Zeppelin, The Clash and Bob Marley. The photos span the career of the legendary lensman and the musicians he has worked with.

Putland was born in 1947 at Harrow-on-the-Hill, near London and began developing his interest in photography at the age of nine, landing a job on the music magazine Disc & Music Echo after leaving school. His first assignment was to work with Mick Jagger., and he went on to photograph John Lennon and Elton John among others, before moving to Sounds magazine and continuing to photograph the biggest names in music.

Relocating to New York in 1977, he continued to shoot artists as diverse as Billy Joel, The Clash and the Bee Gees.

The images are being shown at Paul Smith 'Globe' at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5 from May 9 to 20, 2009. Customers can also order images over the phone on 020 8283 7066 and get them delivered directly to their doorstep.
