Michael Jackson has recruited the director and choreographer of High School Musical to design and direct his This Is It comeback gigs.
The 50 shows at London's O2 Arena will begin later this year and Jacko has already auditioned dancers from all over the world for his residency. Now it has been announced that Kenny Ortega – with whom he has worked on previous tours – will act as show director for the lengthy run of This Is It shows.
Ortega has previously worked with Gene Kelly, and was behind Barbra Streisand’s Millennium tour, but is probably better known more recently for his work on Disney’s three High School Musical films. He was also director/choreographer of the 2002 Winter Olympics opening and closing ceremonies in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ortega said today that when asked about working on the project: “My answer without a beat was nothing could keep me away. Collaborating with Michael on the Dangerous and HIStory tours were two of the greatest creative experiences of my life, to be invited to partner with him again is a dream come true. He is the most significant artist and entertainer of our generation.”
Jackson has also released a photograph of himself working on the O2 shows which you can see here.
