Jacko delays dates

Comments

Michael Jackson has postponed his first four O2 tour gigs that were scheduled for July. Promoters have stated the delays are caused due to technical complexity and the scale of the shows being planned.

In an email sent to fans yesterday evening, promoters AEG Live stated:

"Michael Jackson show producers will be announcing the rescheduling and change of the opening shows in order to meet the challenges presented by such a large and technically complex concert.

Please allow us to apologise. It was not an easy decision to change the schedule but in the end we wanted to ensure that all of Michael's fans attending the concerts get the same quality in staging and level of entertainment."

The decision has been met with a mixture of anger and understanding amongst fans, some of whom were travelling from abroad for the first dates.

Jackson's recently announced creative collaborator for the This Is It shows, Kenny Ortega explained the original schedule would leave only one night's dress rehearsal time before the gigs, "It just wasn't practical for safety reasons and professional reasons".

"These choices were made purely based on the practical needs and the responsible needs of putting up a first class production", he added.

The first date has been moved to later in the week, whilst three of the others have been pushed back to 2010.

The re-scheduled dates:

July 8 - now July 13 (2009)
July 10 - now March 1, 2010
July 12 - now March 3, 2010
July 14 - now March, 2010
