James Brown's estate settled

Comments

A US judge has finally resolved the two year dispute for the late soul singer's estate. His surviving spouse and his family have been locked in an acrimonious battle since Brown died from heart failure in late 2006.

In his ruling Judge Jack Early apportioned half of the late singer's assets to a charitable trust, a quarter to his widow and surviving son, and the rest to his remaining six adult children.

Describing the settlement as "Fair and reasonable" Judge Early also added "From the perspective of the charitable beneficiaries the risks of not approving the settlement are substantial".

Reactions from all parties involved in the dispute have been positive. The singer's widow, Tomi Rae Hynie Brown stated "I am so relieved and happy that the court has approved this settlement" adding "I want to be able to work with the trustees and other Brown family members to promote James Brown's legacy. My son James and I are grateful to the judge and hope this nightmare is finally over".

Deanna Brown, Brown's adult daughter said: "It has been a struggle, but God has blessed us and we are thankful. "We look forward to working towards the goals of our father by providing education scholarships for impoverished students and his own grandchildren, and making his home a museum for the world to come and see".

The judge had also ruled that Brown's relatives will create a memorial or museum to the late singer.
