Samamidon - Wedding Dress
Samamidon is Sam Amidon and Thomas Barlett, (who also performs under the moniker doveman). The music they make is steeped in the sounds of old and whilst the recording quality is modern, the songs are all Appalachian folk songs that have been lovingly reworked in the tradition that brought them to Sam's ears in the first place.
That's not to say Samamidon's a purely traditional act though. Layered harmonies and more contemporary piano accompaniment add new to the old on Wedding Dress; Nico Muhly's brilliant string arrangements adding layers of depth and at times almost Sufjan Stevens-esque flourishes to the song. Appalachian folk that's both true to it's roots and the re-inventing tradition.
