Michael Jackson may be gone. But his influence lives on. Here are five people who wouldn’t exist without him.
Justin Timberlake
The former boyband star gave himself a Jackson-style makeover for his debut solo album, Justified. Cue smooth R&B vocals and the sort of onstage moves that would have done Jacko proud.
Britney Spears
Jackson’s ‘80s tours took the spectacle to new levels, something the popstress picked up on with her current, lavish Circus tour. Has paid tribute to Jackson: “If it were not for Michael Jackson I would not be where or who I am.”
Usher
Deft-footed R&B star whose robotic dancing was influenced by Jackson. Has collaborated onstage with the late singer on You Rock My World. “This
loss has deeply saddened me,” he says. “I would not be the artist, performer and philanthropist I am today without the influence of Michael.”
R Kelly
The troubled R&B star picked up where Jackson left off in the ’90s, not least via his penchant for lavish, visionary videos. One of the biggest names to sign up for on Jackson’s ultimately aborted Hurricane Katrina charity single, From The Heart.
Will.i.am
The Black Eyed Peas mainman has long cited Jackson as a prime influence. But his fan dreams came true recently when he started working with the King Of Pop on what would have been his come back. Will.i.am recently told Q: "He said, 'You know, I just wanna make unprecedented music! I just wanna shock 'em! Wanna go for the jugular! Aim for the throat! Unprecedented rhythms! International Number Ones! Anyway, we just have to just
... go for the jugular!"
