Rock stars are like Spider Man?

Comments

U2's The Edge reckons rock stars lives share many parallels with that of Spider-Man, whilst Bono reckons he personally has more in common with the Green Goblin (one of Spider-Man's enemies).

The pair made the comparison in a video interview discussing Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, the forthcoming musical adaptation of the superhero's story scheduled for broadway in 2010 which they are writing the music and lyrics for.

Describing his affinity with the transformation of Spidey's character Peter Parker into the superhero, The Edge said: “Every rock & roll star probably started out as the geek who got bullied on in school, and eventually their form of revenge was to write songs or learn to play guitar.” Perhaps perceiving himself as being slightly cooler in school Bono added “I was more of a Green Goblin”

Describing their involvement in the project he said: “We were open to the idea of musical theater, but Spider-Man, that’s a different thing again, because that’s comic books, and there’s a whole series of relations between punk rock and rock bands and comic books, that goes back years” adding that they wanted “to mess with all these aspects of pop culture, put them in a blender and see what comes out on the other end.”

Spider-Man was unavailable for comment but it is understood he would one day like to be as well regarded as the U2 frontman.
