Barred by a gagging order during his trial, music producer Phil Spector's wife has spoken about her husband's treatment; railing against his prison conditions, "He's locked in a 5-by-9 cell, 23 1/2 hours a day" Rachelle Spector said.
"They treat people worse than animals. I want that known." also describing him as a "small and fragile man", telling the LA Times when he went to prison "I didn't think he'd last a week.", "That man couldn't hurt a fly" she said.
Spector now serving a 19 year sentence was portrayed as gun-wielding by the prosecution and five women who testified at his trial, however he had never shown her any malice to her or displayed weapons she said (though prosecutors point out that since his initial arrest all weapons on his property were seized).
The 29 year old also denied claims in some sections of the press that she was a gold-digger, "Younger woman, older man, gold digger, whatever," she said with a little laugh. "I don't take anything from my husband, and I never have. I'm a good person, but people don't see any of that or know how hard I work."
She and Spector are both working on an appeal for his conviction.
