The Low Anthem - To Ohio
You may have caught The Low Anthem over the weekend either playing on the Q stage at Glastonbury or supporting Bruce Springsteen in Hyde Park. If so, chances are the music these three Ivy League graduates from Rhode Island make - which has its roots in the same pastoral folk rock ball park as Fleet Foxes play in, but is also given to far more scalding diversions - will have left a lingering impression, since their word-of-mouth ascent in the UK ismoving along apace.
If not, this languid track from their current album, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, is as good a place as any to start, playing host as it does to their calling cards - arcane instrumentation, evocative lyrics, and a sense of melody that hangs like mist in the air. For those who've already fallen for Fleet Foxes, but also have a love of all things Wilco or Tom Waits, The Low Anthem might just be your new favourite band.
