Swedish file-sharing website The Pirate Bay has been sold, its owners have announced. Stockholm based software company Global Gaming Factory X AB have acquired the site, the move comes after the loss of it's recent court case and the jailing of it's four founders.
The purchase for £4.7 million is not expected to cause any imminent changes though the new owners have plans that include compensating some of the copyright holders they are currently in disagreement with. Gaming Factory's Chief executive Hans Pandeya adding "To be able to continue, however, The Pirate Bay needs a new business model that satisfies the needs and conditions of all parties".
Confirming the sale on their website, the Pirate Bay founders denied cashing in. "A lot of people are worried" stating there was no need for concern they added "We're not and you shouldn't be either!".
Saying that there hadn't been much development of the site in the last couple of years they explained "It's the same site essentially. On the internets, stuff dies if it doesn't evolve. We don't want that to happen."
"If the new owners will screw around with the site, nobody will keep using it. That's the biggest insurance one can have that the site will be run in the way that we all want to."
